Caroline Green

Caroline Green is a contemporary artist currently residing in the Pacific NW. She has composed works using a wide array of mediums, from acrylic to encaustic, metal to wood, and plastics to organic materials. Green has experience working with, painting, drawing, water colors, print making, photography, sculpting, collage, jewelry making and pottery. Caroline has a love for constantly exploring new techniques, while continuing to express a link between irrational fear and the human body. Her work not only holds aesthetic value, but it also conveys an unnecessary fear of the unknown. Caroline has been published in multiple magazines as well as online publications. Green's work is quickly reaching international successes.
Caroline enjoys staying active in her art community. Green is the Vice Chair and curator for the City of Gresham Art Committee, ( http://art4gresham.tripod.com/) a muralist for the Regional Arts & Culture Council for the City of Portland, and a volunteer at Peoples Art of Portland Art Gallery ( http://www.peoplesartofportland.com/ ).
Green's current gallery works (Humanoid) are a combination of her popular pop silhouettes and modern fauvism with influences from medicine and inspiration from the human condition. These pieces explore the relationship between curiosity, fear and ignorance. Randy Young, curator of Gallery Zero describes the works as being "extremely dark surreal imagery".
A new series of landscapes and cityscapes focusing on aesthetics is currently in the works, entitled The Scapes. These pieces combine Caroline's saturated colour palette and painterly qualities to create a modern take on otherwise traditional landscapes.
The Admiring the View series is created from the interactions and observations of various people. This series is heavily influenced by medicine and the human body. A limited colour palette is used, creating a variety of earthy tones, while inducing a melancholic mood to the overall pieces. By using a dry brush technique, she is able to create a soft dreamlike feel to each piece, much similar to oil painting, only achieved with acrylics.
Silhouettes and Razorblades was the connecting series of work between the Admiring the View and Humanoid series. You can see in the very first two creations, Octopus Silhouette and Thanks, Kitty the colour palette was similar to the first series, (Admiring the View) then gradually progressed into the palette used in the “Humanoid works. This was an experimental series playing around with brush and spray. Silhouettes were used against a bright background to give the subject a bold appearance. These works eventually transformed into the Humanoid series which incorporate black silhouettes of curious creatures interacting with their host.
Caroline's Pet Portraits series focuses solely on the pet, with emphasis on the facial structure and eyes. Colours are enhanced to embrace the energy of each pet. Most of these pieces are a combination of oil and acrylic on birch panels. The contrast of the natural wood grain alongside the vibrant colours of the pet enhance the overall feel of each piece. All of Caroline's pet portraits are totally unique from any other pet portrait. Caroline is the first and only artist who has constructed a one of a kind formula for these works.
*10% of sales from my artwork will be donated to local no-kill animal charities. 20% of my pet portrait paintings will go towards Soi Dog Foundation, which rescues dogs from the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand. More info about them can be found here: https://www.soidog.org/Default.aspx
