D-Yo

The rapper known as D-Yo was born into this world as Derek Roberts on February 23, 1987 in Dallas, TX. Growing up, his life was not easy. Some of the things he witnessed as a child forced him to find a way to express his anger, his happiness, his sadness and his pain. Since he was not one who grew up with dreams of being a rapper, any feelings he had of actually expressing his emotions were placed far on the back burner. Instead, like many, D-Yo seemed to gravitate towards the streets.
As he grew older, he knew things had to change. As much as the streets kept calling him, he knew that life was not the one he actually wanted to live. He realized he had to do something with his incredible ability to write. Also being a music connoisseur D-Yo was able to combine his writing ability with some of the styles of the rappers who influenced him and his rapping persona began to form.
It is a well-known fact that many rappers have a problem coming up with their rap moniker, but such was not an issue for D-Yo. Legendary Texas rapper, ESG (from the S.U.C) actually proclaimed that Mr. Roberts' name should be D-Yo and everyone in the Migraine Records family agreed. And with that D-Yo was born.
Although D-Yo only officially started his rap career in 2005, he has already caught the ears of (and got the preverbal co-sign) from artists such as ESG, Kiotti and D. Woods, all of which he has also worked with.
Many people think the only thing Dallas rappers can do is create dance tracks, but D-Yo is here to kill those thoughts. If you combine the story telling ability of Nas with Young Jeezy's trap tales and mix in the southern twang you expect to hear from a Texas artist, you get D-Yo. Once the musical world learns about him, it will never be the same.
